Following is information on two schools in Jamaica that are part of the Schools Beyond Borders program.
Boston Primary and Infant School, Fairy Hill, Jamaica
The school counselor very much supports the concept of pen pal relationships and will initiate a program in this school.
Boston Primary and Infant School is located in the rural community of Fairy Hill in Portland Parish of Jamaica, 13 km. east of Port Antonio. There are 330 students, ages 3 to 12 years, and eleven teachers in eight classrooms. The principal and guidance counselor each have their own small office. A retired teacher serves as a volunteer librarian. Most of the classrooms are small and crowded and three classrooms have partial room dividers to accommodate two separate classes.
Teachers’ wish list:
- Teaching aids
- Audio visual equipment
- Repair to student bathrooms
- Four computers to introduce computers to students
